***The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th photos in this set were shot through a car windshield.
We recently spotted two juvenile bald eagles sitting on a frozen portion of a lake. Because they were so far away, we waited, in hopes that they would take flight and head our way. Soon enough, one did just that. As were were guessing where he was headed, and as we followed along in our vehicle, we saw a hawk suddenly approach and attack the eagle. The eagle was completely upside down at one point, as they dueled it out, midair. While their encounter was short lived, it was filled with heart pounding action. The eagle left, continuing in the direction he had started out in, and the hawk remained, circling his air space, keeping a watchful eye. It was then that we were able to scramble for a shot of the juvenile eagle and his impressive wingspan. Definitely an exciting moment.
Don't forget to keep your eye on the sky!
